报告摘要:
In the non-perturbative regime QCD generates the masses and internal structure of the hadrons. At the deepest level it is also responsible for the structure of atomic nuclei. In this brief review we will examine some of the historical highlights in this development, as well as exciting open questions.
个人简介:
Prof. Thomas, theFellow of the Australian Academy of Science, one of the most well-known nuclear and particle physicist, was made a Companion of the Order of Australia "for his eminent service to scientific education and research, particularly in the field of nuclear and particle physics, through academic leadership roles"in 2020, whichis the highest civilian honour for an Australian citizen. At the age of 40,he was appointed Elder Professor of Physics - the sixth person to hold the chair first held in 1886 byNobel LaureateSir William Bragg.Prof. Thomas was awardedthe Harrie Massey Medalof the UK Institute of Physics,a Centenary Medal, and so on.In 2004, Prof. Thomas was invited to take up the position of Chief Scientist and Associate Director for Theoretical and Computational Physics at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, one of the US Department of Energy's two major fundamental nuclear physics laboratories. He is now Director of the University Research Centre for Complex Systems and the Structure of Matter, Vice-Cair of the Asaian Nuclear Physics association and the Association of Asian Pacific Countries Division of Nuclear Physics,Vice-Chair of the Asian Nuclear Physics Association. Prof. Thomas's work has received more than 40,000 citations on Google Scholar, with an h-index of 100.
