The Key Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of Gansu Province

The constitution of The Key Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of Gansu Province was proposed by Lanzhou University, and the laboratory was officially authorized in December, 2020.With the help and guidance of academic committee, the scientific research in the laboratory have been focused on five research areas, including gravity theory and black hole physics, particle physics and quantum field theory, condensed matter theory, quantum optics, statistical physics and quantum small systems. The mission of the laboratory is to incorporate related research teams from different institutes, conduct exploratory research, serve for the country’s strategy to reinforce fundamental research in the west region of China, train the next generation of scientists, promote academic exchanges, and continue to inspire more scientists for improving the capacity on comprehensive scientific and technological innovation in Gansu province and the west region of China.

Theoretical Physics is a leading research field in Lanzhou Univeristy, one of the characteristic subjects in the university. For more than half century, a large number of talented scholars have been trained in the laboratory for serving the country, which earned the reputation for the laboratory nationwide. With the support of National Natural Science Foundation of China, the “Theoretical Physics Exchange Platform” of Lanzhou University was established in 2010. After more than 10 years’development, the platform has provided a great opportunity for exchanging and idea-cooperating on scientific researches, promoting the development of scientific research on theoretical physics in the northwest region of China. Currently, the "Lanzhou Theoretical Physics Center" is underway of establishment with the support of funding from the National Foundation of China.

The Key Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of Gansu Province mainly focuses on fundamental researches, self-positioning as: based on Lanzhou University, concentrating on the cutting-edge research of theoretical physics,  engaging in the national prominent scientific projects, living up to the promise of "openness, mobility, competition, and alliance", incorporating national high-rank experts and provincial theoretical physics workers to focus on the frontier research of theoretical physics, promoting interdisciplinary research, educating innovative talents, forming an open center for fundamental research, so to  support the research of theoretical physics and training of next-generation scientist in the province and northwest region of China.
